Why a boat, of all places
A proposal needs three things that dry land in high season rarely provides: privacy, a backdrop that does not need explaining, and control of the moment. A private charter supplies all three by definition. There is no restaurant table six feet away, no crowd at the viewpoint, no waiter arriving mid-sentence. There is the sea, the light, the person, and a crew who know exactly when to become invisible.
The settings that work
- The sunset classic. Our three-hour evening cruise was practically designed for this: golden hour off Corfu Town, the Old Fortress as a silhouette, the question asked as the sun touches the ridge. From €550 per vessel, it is also the gentlest way into grand gestures.
- The Antipaxos moment. On the full Paxos day, anchored over the impossible turquoise at Voutoumi or quieter Mesovrika, mid-afternoon, after the swim — relaxed, sun-warm, unguarded. Proposals here feel less staged and more inevitable.
- The flagship evening. For the full production: the Fairline Targa 43, champagne and a gourmet platter arranged in advance, a slow cruise with your own playlist on the sound system, and the deck to yourselves. The boat does a great deal of the talking.
How the staging actually works
Tell us when you book — that is the only rule. From there, a quiet machinery starts: the champagne is aboard and chilling before you step on, the crew knows the planned moment and the fallback, the boat is positioned with the light and the backdrop where they should be, and a phone (yours or the crew’s, your choice) is discreetly ready for the photographs you will want and forget to take. If you have a specific vision — flowers on the deck, a particular song at a particular moment, a beach landing — say so. None of it is a bother; all of it has been done before, smoothly.
One practical note from experience: guard the ring from the sea. Hand it to the crew when you board if you are nervous — pockets and swim shorts have a documented history of betrayal, and the Ionian does not give jewellery back.

The same staging serves every milestone. Anniversary couples get the sunset run with dinner arranged at a waterfront taverna afterwards; honeymooners tend to take the full Paxos day and ask the skipper for the quietest anchorages; birthday groups fill the Sivota day with ten friends and a long lagoon afternoon. June gives long evenings and quiet anchorages; September gives the warmest sea of the year and a golden, settled light that flatters everything and everyone. July and August work beautifully too with one caveat: book well ahead, because sunset slots and the flagship go first.
